Ipswich City Council

Community Consultation

The community consultation phase is an important aspect of this project. The results of this project must be an accurate reflection of the aspirations of the community. There are several activities which Council is undertaking to gain valuable input from local residents and major stakeholders such as State and Federal government, non-government organisations, local businesses, and community groups.

In the Beginning

In mid-2004 Ipswich City Council prepared a Discussion Paper to assist key agencies and partners to appreciate the issues involved in the proposed Ipswich Future Master Plan (IFMP) and to seek their valuable knowledge contribution to the scoping and development of the IFMP.

The paper enunciates the need, purpose and role the Ipswich Future Master Plan will play in setting a strategic direction for the sustainable ultimate development of the City with a clear focus on measurable achievements for 2020 - a vision for "Ipswich 2020 and Beyond". It outlines a process for developing this master plan and likely fundamentals which will need to be considered and issues that might attract feedback.

In the first week of April 2005 almost 65,000 postcards were delivered to all households, businesses, and non-resident ratepayers in Ipswich. The purpose of the postcard was to introduce residents to the project and invite them to register their interest in participating in a Community Workshop or gaining further information about Ipswich 2020 and Beyond.

The draft statement was prepared by Council to initiate discussions with local residents and determine what our community wants for the future.

Ipswich 2020 and Beyond Focus Groups

Representatives from State and Federal government, non-government organisations, local businesses, and community groups, as well as local residents were invited to participate in Focus Groups for the project. These Focus Groups have been determined to focus on each of the 6 Themes.  The purpose of these Focus Groups is to determine the actions that need to be undertaken by all stakeholders to achieve the Vision.
