COUNCILLOR COMMENTS JULY 2011
BUDGET 2011/12
The 2011/12 Council Budget was announced by our Mayor on the 27th June. A copy of the budget is available on Council's web page or call my office and I will send a copy to you. Division One will continue to see an increase in roads being kerb & channelled and the footpath network expanded. The Langley Park Hall at Camira will be doubled in size. Council had to balance the flood repair work across our city with new projects.
WOOLWORTHS & MATER HEALTH
Woolworths and Mater Health will soon have a strong presence on the corner of Augusta Parkway and Tournament Drive, Brookwater.
COLES
In addition to Coles announcing that the Ipswich CBD Coles will become one of the largest in Australia, Coles have also committed to a Shopping Centre on the corner of the Springfield Greenbank Arterial and Grande Avenue, Springfield Lakes.
MASTERS HOME IMPROVEMENTS
Is being constructed above Orion Town Centre and will open before Christmas.
JOBS
The above three projects will provide at least 300 jobs to our area. If you are interested please check their websites.
ROBELLE DOMAIN
I am amazed at the number of people visiting Robelle Domain since it opened and more amazed that young children still want the water play during Winter. I am thrilled seeing our newest park being loved so much. I am hoping Markets and Concerts will become a monthly feature. If you have not visited Robelle Domain yet it is between Orion Town Centre and Education City. Light Show at 6pm and 8pm. Water play from 9 to 4pm and Kiosk open from 8.30am to 5pm.
IPSWICH CARES
Since 2007 the month of September has been a month where every Ipswich resident is challenged to give one dollar to partner with Compassion Australia. This year a project in Rwanda has been chosen. I still plan to walk from Rosewood to Springfield Central on the 1st of September to raise awareness and sponsorship. Last year twelve people walked the whole way with me. If you are interested in the 50klm walk challenge or interested in sponsoring me with all proceeds going to Compassion Australia - Rwanda project please contact my office on 3818 3100.
VIETNAMESE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
It was my pleasure to attend the official opening of the Vietnamese Christian Church on Sunday July 3rd. This is the first Vietnamese Christian Church built in Queensland. Congratulations to Pastor Hua, his family and the congregation who have sacrificed much to make this a reality. The church is on Hosanna Place, off Ishmael Road, Camira. For more information contact Pastor Hoa Nhu on 0423 776 800.
COMMUNITY GROUPS
Many people in our community work hard to ensure groups and clubs continue to grow. If you are interested in joining or forming a local group please contact my office and I can send you a list of existing clubs or groups.
FIRE ANTS
Continue to be on guard for Fire Ants. One common misunderstanding is their size. Fire ants look like the very small brown ants. Their nests look like a small mound with no holes. If in doubt please contact the Department of Primary Industries on 13 25 23.
