  • LLB (Law degree) from the University of Queensland
  • Justice of the Peace (Qualified)
  • Registered Australian Migration Agent No. 0002733
  • Member, Migration Institute of Australia (MMIA)
  • First elected 31 March 1979 at the age of 27 as the youngest Councillor ever elected to the Ipswich City Council in the city's history since 1860
  • Successfully contested all subsequent elections in 1982, 1985, 1988, 1991, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2004 and 2008
  • Currently the longest-serving Councillor of the Ipswich City Council
  • Queensland's longest-serving City Councillor
  • Convenor, Queenslanders for a Republic 
  • National Convenor of Australian Republicans for an Elected President (AREP).
