Dogs

Dogs are required to be registered in accordance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 within the Ipswich City Council area within 14 days of:

(a) the dog reaching the age of three (3) months

(b) the dog moving into the Ipswich City Council area

(c) an owner acquiring a new dog

(d) previous registration expiring (not cancelled or revoked)

- Reciprocal dog registration now covers all Australian Local Governments where a dog is currently registered and satisfactory proof of registration is shown. A registration form is required to be completed by the customer and proof of current registration with another Local Government MUST be provided.

- Properties sized less than 2000m2 are only allowed to keep up to two dogs

- Properties sized greater than 2000m2 can keep up to four dogs..

- Permits must be applied for if additional dogs are to be kept outside of these guidelines - see permits scripting

If a dog is to be kept in a multiple dwelling, unit, town house, or residence of similar nature, written permission must be obtained from the property owner and must be produced when registering the dog.

Racing dogs (Greyhounds) are required to be registered however are exempt from registration fees if they provide the certificate issued by the Greyhound Racing Authority (GRA).
