Ipswich supports Gold Coast SuperGP

19 October 2009

IPSWICH has thrown its support behind the Gold Coast SuperGP this weekend and urged motorsport fans to support the event.

Ipswich Mayor and Urban Local Government Association president Cr Paul Pisasale called for all Queenslanders to get behind the Gold Coast regardless of overseas interests withdrawing from the program.

"Aussies have rallied to fill the gap left in the program by the withdrawal of A1GP organisation," he said.

"Queensland sports minister Phil Reeves has joined with V8 Supercar chairman Tony Cochrane to bolster the program.

"This is tremendous example of Australians working together for Australians.

"New for this weekend will be a legends race featuring Dick Johnson and many former stars of the track.

"Dick will be joined by son Steve to take on the role of race Grand Marshals.

"The new order of V8 Supercar drivers has also promised a weekend to remember.

"The V8 Supercars will fill the circuit with high octane thrills that won't disappoint fans.

"Rather than some people calling for sackings we should be thanking sports minister Phil Reeves and V8's chairman Tony Cochrane for their quick action in bolstering the Gold Coast race program," Cr Pisasale said
