Statement on the future of Ipswich water and wastewater services

23 October 2009

IPSWICH residents should continue to contact Ipswich City Council about water and wastewater services until June 30 2010.

Deputy Mayor Victor Attwood said a new water business called Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) would take over supplying water and wastewater services from July 1 2010.

"QUU has been established by the state government as part of a restructure of the south east Queensland water industry.

"It is important to note that water supply and customer service remains with Ipswich City Council until June 2010.

"All businesses and residents in Ipswich can continue to contact Ipswich Water for all water enquiries."

Cr Attwood stressed that while Brisbane City Council customers would changeover to QUU from January 1 2010, all remaining council areas in the south east would change to QUU from July 1 2010.

"From July next year Ipswich ratepayers will no longer pay for water and wastewater services as part of their Ipswich City Council rate notice.

"From July 2010 customers will receive a separate water bill from Queensland Urban Utilities," Cr Attwood said.
