More free family fun in November with Fit Flicks Movies in the Park

27 October 2009

IPSWICH residents can again enjoy Ipswich City Council's Fit Flicks Movies in the Park program.

The November 14 event will kick off from 6.30pm at Grand Park, Springfield Lakes, showing animated family film Wall-E.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the free program ran in partnership with the Ipswich Hospital Foundation (IHF) and continued to be very popular with residents.

"The first Fit Flicks Movies in the Park in the 2009 -2010 series took place in October and was so well attended that I'm convinced people were just waiting for weather to warm up so that the program could begin again," Cr Pisasale said.

"Fit Flicks Movies in the Park is also important because it contributes to the city's goal of making Ipswich the healthiest community in Queensland.

"Council's partnership with the IHF has produced such an innovative and popular event, combining physical activity with a fun family oriented evening, that Fit Flicks Movies in the Park will be featured in Ipswich's 150 celebrations in 2010.

"As  the city marks 150 years since it became a municipality, we look forward to people continuing to embrace this fun-filled and free program."

Council's Community Engagement Committee Chairperson Councillor Heather Morrow said Fit Flicks Movies in the Park was a fun way to bring families and the community together.

"Families take the opportunity to participate in the 15 minutes of fitness activities prior to the movie, which is run by a qualified aerobics instructor. This is particularly popular with children and that's great to see," Cr Morrow said.

"Since it's launch in 2007, ‘Fit Flicks Movies in the Park' has become one of the most popular items in the city's regular events calendar.

"Our beautiful parks, fresh air, exercise, a free movie and the company of family and friends, I can't think of a better way to spend a balmy summer evening."
