Healthy ageing information on offer at special expo

IPSWICH residents were provided with information on a diverse range of health, leisure, well-being and disability services within Ipswich at today's annual Ipswich Health, Ageing and Disability Expo.

The expo was held at the Ipswich Civic Centre and featured 44 information stalls.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said Ipswich City Council was committed to ensuring that the city had in place programs and services which supported Ipswich's large seniors community.

"Our seniors are an important part of the foundation of our city, playing not only important roles within their own families, but also within a large number of local community groups," Cr Pisasale said.

"We are keen to support them in the way they assist in the local community and today's expo is one way in which we can do that.

"The annual Ipswich Health, Ageing and Disability Expo is all about enhancing the quality of life of Ipswich's older residents, people with a disability and their carers."

Youth and Seniors Committee Chairperson Councillor Sheila Ireland said the annual expo was co-ordinated by council and gave the community the chance to come along and browse among the many exhibitors and listen to health and community specialists speak on a range of interesting and relevant topics.

"The expo showcased a range of information including employment, aged care and disability services accessible within Ipswich and is one way in which we are addressing the challenge of our ageing society," Cr Ireland said.

"We want to promote services that encourage a healthy approach to ageing and providing an awareness of resources that enable the elderly and people with a disability to live independently in the community."
