Goodna mobile library switches position

6 November 2009

A NEW location was launched in Goodna today when Ipswich City Council's mobile library visited the area.

The new stop has been put in place following a review of the mobile library service by council.

Tourism and Libraries Committee Chairperson Councillor David Pahlke and Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully officially launched the new stop on Smiths Rd, on the opposite side to the previous stop between Queen and William streets.

Cr Tully said the change to the Goodna stop had made the mobile library much easier to access and would provide a safer location for all library patrons.

"The library has moved a short distance to improve access for patrons," he said.

Cr Tully said mobile library was extremely popular in Goodna with many residents taking advantage of the many services on offer.

"It gives people the chance to access the full range of library services without having to travel out of the local area to the branch libraries at Ipswich, Redbank Plains or Redbank Plaza."

Cr Pahlke said the mobile library ensured that as many people as possible had access to the Ipswich Library and Information Service.

"Currently the mobile library visits 14 locations in Ipswich including Willowbank, Grandchester, Karalee, Marburg and Rosewood, Booval, Camira, Springfield, Goodna and Brassall," he said.

"Conducting a review of the mobile library service helps to ensure that council is providing a service to residents that meets current needs.

"It was clear from the recent review of the mobile library service that user needs had changed and so alterations to the schedule are being made."

Ipswich's mobile library is almost 18 metres long and carries about 6500 items at any time including books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and CD-ROMs.

The mobile library delivers 21 services to sites throughout Ipswich and welcomes more than 4000 visitors each month.
