Environmental Weeds

A weed can be defined as a plant growing in the wrong place. ICC is actively involved with environmental and declared weeds (or declared plants).

The existence of environmental weeds is one of the most important issues in the on-going protection and management of Ipswich City's natural resources. Environmental weeds interfere with the conservation, management, use and enjoyment of our bushland areas.

For information on ICC's Environmental Weed Control Rebate Program see application below.

For assistance with identifying possible environmental weeds contact the Queensland Herbarium Plant Identification and Advisory Service on (07) 3896 9318.

Declared Plants

Declared plants are those species declared under the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002. Class 1 and 2 Declared Plants are Queensland's quarantine and eradication target pests, and established and serious pests which a landholder is obligated by law to take reasonable steps to keep their land free of.  The Environmental Weed Control Rebate does NOT cover these species.

The most common declared plants found within Ipswich City Council are African Boxthorn, Annual Ragweed, Fireweed, Groundsel Bush, Mother of Millions and Water Hyacinth.
