Ipswich City Council

Parking

Council has a number of controls regarding parking, which it regulates through its local laws. These controls are aimed at improving safety and convenience for our community and for visitors to Ipswich City.

Local Law 27 (Regulated Parking) includes specific restrictions for the parking of vehicles, such as signposted 'no stopping zones' and time-restricted parking. It is also prohibited to park a vehicle on a path, dividing strip or nature strip, as this causes danger to pedestrians and other motorists, as well as potentially causing damage to the footpath.

Metered Parking

Metered on street parking bays have time limits according to the official traffic parking signs (1P, 2P etc).

Care should be taken when parking in Ipswich Central not to stay longer than the time limit indicated on the parking sign.

When inserting coins into the parking meters first check which bay you are parked in by the letter on the footpath next to your car, press the bay button on the meter to bring up your bay clock and insert only the acceptable coinage ($2, $1, 20 and 10 cent pieces). Ipswich City Council parking meters are single and multi bay meters which can cover from 1 and up to 4 parking bays.

Disabled Parking

Disabled parking is available for both current red or blue disabled permit holders issued by the Department of Transport.

Care should be taken when parking in a disabled parking bay, ensure your permit is visible and on the dashboard and that the color of the permit matches the traffic disabled parking sign.
