Ipswich City CouncilHeritage Consultative CommitteeAt about the same time that Council commissioned the Ipswich Heritage Study, an Ipswich Heritage Consultative Committee was established. The Ipswich Heritage Consultative Committee has a broad based structure and a fairly wide charter. The Committee provides Council with both broad-based, community support and input into its heritage initiatives and technical expertise amongst a range of eminent heritage practitioners. The make up of the Committee includes some of Queensland's most eminent heritage practitioners; representatives from key community groups with a strong interest in heritage, such as the Ipswich Branch of the National Trust, the Ipswich Historical Society, Harrisville Historical Society, the Rosewood Scrub Historical Society and the Ipswich Genealogical Society; and business and industry representatives. The make up of the Committee is intentionally broad-based in order to facilitate a balanced view of heritage protection and overall community input and representation. The Ipswich Heritage Consultative Committee has played an important role: as the steering committee for the Ipswich Heritage Study; as a crucial sounding board for a wide range of new heritage activities; to provide community input into the decision making process involving development applications on heritage sites; and in policy formulation - including prioritising projects for annual budget submissions.
