Ipswich City Council

Ipswich Central

Ipswich Central websiteIpswich Central is a centre of government, finance and medical services for Ipswich and the surrounding region.  Ipswich Central strongly represents retail, cultural and entertainment opportunities for the Community.  Much of its historic building stock remains along with many historical spaces and parks.

The Ipswich City Council wants to ensure that people buy and invest more locally, while forging successful partnerships between public, private and community sectors.

Ipswich Central is the western corridor's living room which is utilised by the many communities who make up the region.  Ipswich Central is a unique place with great economic and social vitality.  A place rich in history, a destination you'll want to share and talk about with others and return to.  The heart of a very special place and community which has re-invested its past, become prosperous, exciting and vital.

Ipswich City Mall and d'Arcy Doyle Place

Ipswich City MallThe refurbished Ipswich City Mall and d'Arcy Doyle Place was officially opened on 9 December 2005.

The refurbishment of Ipswich City Mall and d'Arcy Doyle Place has seen the transformation of both places into a vibrant city centre which provides venues for a range of public activities including festivals, markets and performances.

Ipswich City Mall is home to a number of businesses and retail stores as well as the new Ipswich City Council Customer Service Centre and Ipswich Water.

The upgrade of the Ipswich City Mall has included an innovative and interactive public art piece referred to as the Futurescope that enables the viewer to see the ‘future' of Ipswich.

Standing tall in the heart of Ipswich's historic business district at 17 metres, the Futurescope enables the viewer to gain a bird's eye view of the development taking place in the City and provides stunning views of the City's landmark attractions, such as Queens Park and St Mary's Church.

While it employs the latest technology, the design and construction of the Futurescope is based on the City's heritage railway bridge.  Ipswich's first railway bridge was constructed in 1863 and it quickly positioned the City as the hub of transport and communication in the region.

The railway bridge was a key factor in the City's early prosperity, so it's fitting that it provides the design inspiration for a public artwork that celebrates Ipswich's exciting future.
