Export, Import and Investment

Strengthening and encouraging trade and investment in the Ipwich region is essential for economic growth and creating sustainable employment opportunities. 

The State and Federal Government have established programs and iniatives to assist and support business that are either already trading overseas or those that are just branching out.

Trade Queensland - part of the Queensland State Government's Dept of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, provides a range of export services including:

  • Export capability assessment
  • Practical export advice
  • Export skills development programs
  • Introduction to potential business partners and export opportunities
  • Visits to overseas market and on-the-ground support
  • Introduction to inbound buyers visiting Queensland

Austrade - the Australian Trade Commission is the Australian Government's trade and investment development agency that helps Australian companies win overseas business for their products and services by reducing the time, cost and risk involved in selecting, entering and devleoping international markets. Austrade's TradeState Program flexibly addresses the needs of individual businesses drawing on the combined resources of Austrade and the TradeStart Partners.

International Agreements 

The City of Ipswich has developed, over a number of years, strong international partnerships.

Council's responsibilities include:

  • The management and development of region to region co-operation agreements to gain mutual economic, education and social benefits
  • The coordination, management and marketing of Ipswich's International Week to increase visitation and positively promote Council to the community
  • The facilitation of Council's participation and membership in the World Technopolis Association

International Agreements

 Japan

Nerima City, Tokyo - Originally signed 15 October 1994 - Friendship & Bilateral Cooperation - by Mayor Dave Underwood; 10th Anniversary Partnership Agreement signed 21 October 2004 by Mayor Paul Pisasale

The agreeement has included annual education exchanges, gifts of library books; Rotary visits; cultural exchanges (RAAF 2WG Band); school Rugby Union tours; country music groups and local government visits. One of the significant outcomes of this agreement is the assistance and support (both financial & human) provided by Nerima City Office and Tokyo Nerima-West Rotary Club in the construction of Nerima Gardens Stages 1 and 2 located to adjacent to Queen's Park and the Environmental Education Centre.  Taiwan Hsinchu Hsien - Signed 21 April 1994 - Ipswich is a partner in a SE Queensland Region to Region Relationship - originally signed by Mayor Dave Underwood and other Mayors from around SE Qld. Inactive
 China Shenzhen Bureau of Trade & Industry, Guangdong Province - Signed 28 March 2006 - Intention Agreement to Establish an Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone
 India Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry - Signed 21 April 2009 - Memorandum of Understanding
