Building Better Clubs
Sport and recreation clubs play a key role in keeping the community healthy and active. Building Better Clubs has been created to help sport and recreation clubs in Ipswich be sustainable for a better community.
The program focuses on providing support in five key areas:
- Education and Training - workshops, seminars and other resources focusing on important issues relevant to clubs
- Grants and Awards - Council and other grant, funding and award opportunities available to clubs
- Promotion - local opportunities to promote clubs online and through programs
- Information - industry and Council news/updates, current grant, funding and award opportunities, upcoming workshops, facility booking information and other resources for clubs
- Communication - provide Council with your ideas for workshops and resources, and feedback about the program

Education and Training
Workshops & Seminars
Ipswich City Council and the Department of Communities, Sport & Recreation Services provide free workshops to help people involved in sport and recreation clubs to address emerging issues and update skills and knowledge.
Building Better Clubs Workshops
Ipswich City Council, with support from the Department of Communities, Sport & Recreation Services, is providing workshops throughout 2009 based on four key topics:
- Grant Writing for Clubs
- Recruiting Sport Club Volunteers
- Creating Sport Club Development Plans
- Increasing Junior Participation in Sport

Locker Room & Regional Workshops
The Department of Local Government, Sport & Recreation Services provides locker room seminars, regional workshops and other education/training opportunities on topics such as club committees, general principles of coaching plus much more. Visit the event calendar for more information.
Ipswich Sports Summit
The Ipswich Sports Summit provides Coaches, Officials and Club Administrators an opportunity to exchange ideas and share knowledge of high profile industry professionals.

Club Development Network Library

The Australian Sports Commission's Club Development Network Library provides a variety of resources to assist clubs in a wide range of areas including participation and membership, volunteer management, club committees, planning and administration.

The Department of Communities, Sport & Recreation Services provides resources to assist clubs in better business practices, increasing participation, junior sport and volunteer management.

The Clubhouse
|
The Department of Sport and Recreation Western Australia's Clubhouse is a compilation of resources for clubs including a series of club development booklets on topics such as guides for presidents, treasurers and secretaries, marketing and promoting clubs, volunteer management plus much more.

Modern Club Management Toolbox
|
Moreton Bay Regional Council has developed the Modern Club Management Toolbox to provide resources to assist clubs in volunteer management, managing children and young people, committee functions and risk management.

Grants and Awards
Ipswich City Council Programs:
Ipswich City Council provides financial support to developing athletes and to assist in hosting events through the Ipswich Sports Awards and Event Sponsorship programs.

The Ipswich Sports Awards offer monthly and yearly awards to recognise our many sports people and their achievements.

Active After-School Program
|
The Australian Sports Commission's Active After-School Program provides clubs the opportunity to deliver activities at primary schools to promote clubs and to help create school-club links. The program provides:
- free professional development for your club, coaches and parents
- funding to help buy equipment
- paid coaching work
- information onupcoming events, funding etc
- opportunities to develop pathways to increaseclub membership
- access to resources including activity kits and equipment

Sport and recreation facilities can be booked on a seasonal or casual basis:

Following receipt of your completed Seasonal-Casual Booking Form, Council will send you a confirmation letter to confirm the booking and outline any special conditions that may apply.
Communication
Sport and Recreation Clubs Survey
Ipswich sport and recreation clubs will be asked to complete a survey to help guide Council activities based on the needs of the sport and recreation community. When the survey is available you will be able to either complete online and submit by email, or it will be mailed to you to post or fax back.
