Waste

Reducing

How to REDUCE and become a Smart Shopper!!

We can all cut down on the amount of rubbish we produce by reducing the amount of materials we bring into our home that becomes waste. With ever increasing numbers of people living on the Earth today, we are using up many of the natural resources that the planet has available.

However, with a little bit of thought, we can change the way we shop to take into account the amount of natural resources and the environmental impacts that have gone into making the things we buy. At the same time, we will reduce the amount of rubbish we end up throwing out. To start reducing our waste, we need to become smart shoppers!

Where does it come from?

Everything we use, eat, buy and wear originally came from the natural environment. Every product has a life cycle from start to finish.

Product Life Cycle:

  1. The material a product is made from
  2. How it is made
  3. The packaging used
  4. How it is transported
  5. How it is used in the home
  6. How it is recycled/ disposed of.

Therefore, by smart shopping and thinking about what you buy and consume, how it was made, where it came from and what you are going to do with it when you have finished with it will help you to think about reducing waste and look after the natural environment!
