Indigenous Indigenous Australians
The Ipswich City Council's Indigenous Australian Accord provides both recognition of and commitment to the Aboriginal Australian community members of Ipswich.
The Accord recognises the statutory responsibility of Ipswich City Council and other levels of government in meeting the requirements of legislation, and in the provision of services to the Indigenous Australian community and the right of the local indigenous Australian community to these services. The Accord, in addition to commitments from Ipswich City Council, also promotes community relations and support within the local community.
As part of this commitment Council contributes to community development by aiming to increase participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and facilitate development of partnerships that have Cultural, Social and Economic benefits to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the Ipswich and West Moreton Region. These partnerships will be managed or co-managed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community members and organisations and provide greater opportunities to achieve individual and community benefits.
Council's Indigenous Australian Community Development aims to work with Community Organisations and other Government Departments as whole of community approach to address a wide range of social economic and cultural issues and enhance the quality of life of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Council aims to deliver its vision for Ipswich through achievement of a broad spectrum of outcomes in response to the many challenges and opportunities of today and the future. These outcomes are grouped into three themes:
Community Life
Developing a healthy and socially responsible community by building upon our lifestyle, creativity, diversity and community spirit.
Healthy Environment
Retaining and enhancing our natural and built environment through sustainable use for current and future generations.
Prosperous regions
Ensuring a strong economy by encouraging appropriate development, investment partnerships and local employment.
