2007 National Theme was
"Looking Forward Looking Blak"

Each year throughout Australia Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people celebrate NAIDOC Week. This gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the opportunity to share their culture and the opportunity to recognise the contributions made by all Australians striving to achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within their respective communities.

The Ipswich City Council proudly supports the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Ipswich and West Moreton Region and play a major role in management, delivery and support of NAIDOC activities that took place in the Ipswich and West Moreton Region.

This year their were a number of NAIDOC events that were well attended by residents of the Ipswich and West Moreton Region and these included:

  • Monday 9 July Flag Raising at Yamanto Police Station
  • Tuesday 10 July Kambu Medical Centre Family and Awards Day
  • Thursday 12 Ipswich NAIDOC Family Fun Day Evan Marginson Park Goodna
  • Saturday 14 Amaroo Kindy & Pre-School Market and Open Day
  • Saturday 14 Ipswich NAIDOC Debutant Ball and Community Awards Night
  • Tuesday 17 July 4 Short Films were shown in the Barry Jones Auditorium and these were supported by the Australian Film Commission.

All of the above events contribute to reconciliation and develop cultural understanding and appreciation of the differences that exist between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

Ipswich City Council would like to thank the following agencies for their financial support for the Ipswich NAIDOC Family Fun Day; Commonwealth Carelink, Department of Communities Ipswich and Children of the Dreaming and would also thank the other community and government agencies who made this day a great success.
