Skate and BMX in Ipswich

Skater Small PortraitHave Your Say on the Future of Skate and BMX in Ipswich!

The Ipswich City Council has taken a proactive approach to Skate and BMX Park planning and management by beginning work on a new Skate & BMX Facilities Strategy for the city.

This Strategy will be used to provide strategic direction on the maintenance, management, development, and activation of existing and new Skate and BMX facilities in Ipswich.

The involvement of the wider community, as well as current Skate and BMX facility users, will ensure that facilities are appropriately located, well-designed, enjoyable, appropriately challenging, in line with acceptable standards, and are safe and enjoyable for users of all ages and skill levels.

Some of the things the Strategy will involve are:

  • Establishing a Skate and BMX Advisory Panel to allow young people to provide input and assistance into decisions around the planning, design, implementation, activation, management, maintenance and evaluation of Skate and BMX Facilities;
  • Conducting an audit assessment of all exiting skate & BMX facilities within Ipswich to get a clear understanding of the current condition, safety and skill level, and what each facility has to offer;
  • ensuring skate and BMX facilities are located in appropriate locations, and are in line with best practice planning, design and management;
  • Proposing recommendations for supportive infrastructure required for the development of inclusive and integrated facilities;
  • Proposing future improvements, upgrades and redevelopment, recommended sites for new skate and BMX facilities;
  • The development of a broad scale Risk Management Plan;
  • A prioritised implementation plan outlining how the recommendations will be delivered; and
  • An Activation Strategy to ensure increased participation in the ongoing management of existing and planned facilities.

Following extensive community consultation, facility audits and background research, community engagement consultants, Plan C have completed work on the Stage One Needs Assessment

Stage 1 Needs Assessment

Ipswich City Council and Plan C would like to thank the community for it's involvement in the project so far.  The information gathered towards the development of the Stage 1: Needs Assessment of the Ipswich Skate & BMX Facilities Strategy will be critical in preparing stage two.

Stage 2: Ipswich Skate & BMX Facilities Strategy.

Council will now commence the development of the Stage 2: Skate & BMX Facilities Strategy.  It is anticipated that thsi stage will be completed in late 2010.

Who is invited to have input?

To ensure this Strategy meets the needs of the community your input is crucial. The first rounds of consultation towards the development of the Stage 1 Needs Assessment has now been completed.
