Modern cities are created through vision, hard work and the use of available resources.
Ipswich is truly a city that has grown as a result of its people, their ingenuity and the
industries developed from its landscape and community. In the early years, self sufficiency
was important for the growing region and the wide range of farming, business and industry
that flourished in Ipswich through to the mid twentieth century represents that priority.
After World War II, changes in global trade and manufacturing and rural technologies also
saw changes in corresponding industries with mono culture farming and single industries
becoming more common.
Change in needs over time has inspired change in business and industry and throughout
the past 150 years Ipswich has reinvented itself many times over.
