The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus opened on the site of
the former Challinor Centre in 1999.
In 2006 Goodna turned 150. Goodna was one of the first stops for
Cobb & Co. coach passengers.
The University of Southern Queensland opened a campus in Springfield
in 2006 – part of Education City.
On 6 June 2008, Ipswich City Council won an award for “excellence in
overall environmental management” as part of the United Nations
Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards.
Ipswich was named the most liveable mid-sized city (population of 75
000 to 199 999) in the world by the panel of 2007 Livcom Awards for
Liveable Communities.
In 2007, Ipswich was awarded second prize in the prestigious Local
Government Landcare Partnerships Awards for its efforts in creating
conservation partnerships over 10 years.
Ipswich was named South East Queensland’s Tidiest Town in 2004 and
again in 2009.
Ipswich received an Environmental Innovation Award 2002/2003.
Ipswich was the 2009 winner of Keep Australia Beautiful’s inaugural
Sustainable Cities Award for Environmental Protection and Innovation.
2010 Springfield was the winner of the International Real Estate
Federation (FIABCI) excellence for master planned category.
In 1991, the Ipswich City Council embarked on a major process of
identification and recording of items of heritage significance within the
city. This resulted in the Ipswich Heritage Study. More than 1400 items
including those of Indigenous cultural significance were identified.
In 1997, two years after the amalgamation of the former Moreton Shire
with the city of Ipswich, a broader survey of the regional’s cultural
heritage was undertaken.
