Much has happened to Ipswich over the past 150 years and perhaps
even more significantly since the municipal centenary celebrations
in 1960. Ipswich has grown rapidly and continues to do so. Ipswich
has the potential to supply up to 43% of the total industrial land
in South East Queensland over the next twenty years. The city
is currently enjoying an investment boom both commercially and
through council and this has seen, for example, the opening of the
Riverlink Shopping Centre, Orion Town Central, the refurbishment of
the Ipswich Mall, and the establishment of the beautiful River Heart
Parklands and Brassall bikeway. The balance between maintaining
the best of the city’s heritage and encouraging development is
central to Council’s agenda and has seen the rise of planned
communities at Ripley Valley and Springfield and the revitalising of
the CBD. Higher education opportunities have increased with the
opening of the University of Queensland Ipswich Campus and the
University of Southern Queensland campus at Springfield.
Council’s vision is clear: to create a future for the city of Ipswich that
will outshine even the best moments from its past.
