Ipswich Youth Advisory and Indigenous Youth Advisory Council

Become part of a team of young people who can make a difference!

The Ipswich City Council is looking for 12 young people aged between 12-17 living in the Ipswich region who are;

  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, and committed to young people and current affairs issues
  • Interested in becoming involved in youth events and activities
  • Able to listen and respect the views of his/her peer group
  • Take their membership and the responsibilities of this role seriously
  • Act as a voice for other Ipswich young people
  • Collect the views of young people through links with community groups, schools, youth centres, clubs, and other youth councils.


Term of Appointment
All applicants will have to be prepared to commit to the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of two years unless they turn 18 and/or leave school during the term of appointment.

Meetings will be held fortnightly on Mondays from 4.00 pm - 5.30 pm and more frequently as required.

Members will have the opportunity to volunteer and participate in community events, forums and activities.

What do you need to do?
If you are eligible and interested in becoming an IYAC member, all you have to do is complete an Application Form. If you prefer to submit a hard copy via mail please download and print the Information and Application Kit Information and Application Kit (PDF, 1.5 mb)

Once all applications have been received, they will be assessed by the Youth Development Officer, Councillors and the Mayor. Applicants will be shortlisted and potential members will be contacted by Monday, 12 November 2012. Successful applicants will be notified after this date.

Indigenous Youth Advisory Councils 

The Ipswich City Council is also looking for 12 young Indigenous young people aged between 12-17 living in the Ipswich region who are:

  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, and committed to young people and current affairs issues
  • Interested in becoming involved in youth events and activities
  • Able to listen and respect the views of his/her peer group
  • Take their membership and the responsibilities of this role seriously
  • Act as a voice for other Ipswich young people
  • Collect the views of young people through links with community groups, schools, youth centres, clubs, and other youth councils.

Term of Appointment
All applicants will have to be prepared to commit to the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of two years unless they turn 18 and/or leave school during the term of appointment.
Meetings will be held every three (3) weeks on a Tuesday afternoon between 4.00 pm - 6.00 pm, or more frequently as required.
