Message from the MayorIpswich is a city built on pride and determination and the 2009-2010 Ipswich City Council Budget builds on those strengths to focus on jobs, masterplanned communities, heritage preservation and education. We will continue to work hard to prepare for the future and ensure Ipswich is the city we love to call 'home'. Ipswich is now the fastest growing city in the state and this year's record budget of $512 million reflects our desire to meet the demands of growth. In the five years since the current team of councillors were elected, Ipswich has grown from 78 new residents per week in 2004, to 152 each week in 2009 - an increase of 94 per cent. It may sound like a well-worn phrase by now but it is essential that we plan well for a sustainable future. Rapid growth of the kind we are now experiencing is not something we can simply watch from the sidelines. We need to not only be right in the thick of the action, but also a few steps ahead, always looking for the next set of goal posts. I am confident that, by working together, the government, business and community sectors can keep the city's future in shape and on track.
