Message From Cr Charlie Pisasale
An enlarged kitchen/servery area equipped with new ovens is among the latest enhancements to the 33-year-old facility which also boasts improved disability access, upgraded digital sound and lighting and new seating. The $1 million upgrade has thankfully not had an adverse effect on bookings for the 2008 Festival of Theatre, with a number of shows already sold out months in advance. This is largely due to the introduction of internet bookings this year with more than 25 per cent of customers booking online. Enjoy the Festival of Theatre Update which will be produced on a monthly basis. There are some fantastic events coming up and I look forward to seeing you at Ipswich Civic Hall soon.

![]() Lior Set to Enchant AudiencesCoinciding with the release of his highly anticipated second album Corner Of An Endless Road, acclaimed singer-songwriter Lior will visit Ipswich this month as part of a national tour. Lior will perform tracks from his new album which he describes as "a true representation of my musical landscape; think Led Zeppelin jamming with Nick Drake at a teahouse somewhere in the Middle East". "The songs had time to breathe during the recording process and often took us to unexpected, demanding places," Lior said. "These new tracks are intensely personal and candid. They represent landmarks of the emotional journey throughout the last two years." Incorporating a wide array of instrumentation Corner Of An Endless Road showcases Lior’s rich voice, enchanting musical arrangements and displays an honesty and artistic integrity. The upcoming concert, which includes Lior’s full band and a string quartet, will also showcase some favourites from his ARIA-nominated, independent Gold debut album Autumn Flow. Together with support artist, Abby Dobson, the former lead singer of Leonardo’s Bride, Lior's concert promises to be a night of rich individual vocals and enchanting musical arrangements. Lior - Live in Concert - Saturday 29 March, 7.30pm. All tickets $32.50 [ Back to Top ] Spectacular Showcase of Chinese SplendourTake a journey through time and discover Spectacular China. This powerful and captivating stage show takes audiences through the rich and timeless dynasties that have captured the western world for hundreds if not thousands of years. Through a dynamic and potent combination of dance, acrobatics, kung fu, music and song, China’s most acclaimed and celebrated performers will have you transfixed and entranced from the very first moment.
Producer Hao Zhou said he had designed the show as a cultural gift by way of introducing Australian audiences to the history and people of China in the year of the Beijing Olympics. "Spectacular China takes audiences on a journey back through time to dynasties long gone but not forgotten," he said. "Each act in the program focuses on a particular era in China’s ever-evolving history and captures its very essence through music, dance, acrobatics and martial arts." Performance highlights include acrobatic master Nie Jian, who will have audiences transfixed as he balances upside down on the chair pyramid some 12 metres above the ground. This piece is as beautiful as it is awe-inspiring. China’s famous Terracotta Soldiers will come to life when some thirty performers tell a tale of conquest and courage through dance, martial arts and acrobats. Add to this the infamous Mongolian warrior Genghis Khan exploding onto stage with his fighting infantry set to a modernised soundtrack, and it is clear that Spectacular China is something not to be missed.
