Cr Charlie PisasaleThe city will come alive this month with the sights and sounds of the 2008 Ipswich Festival. A wide range of events and activities to suit all ages will take place across the city, including a host of top line theatre performances at Ipswich Civic Hall.

From the stirring sounds of Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band’s annual Tattoo event and our talented seniors in their latest comedy offering, to an Elvis tribute show and the visual magic of Flamenco dancing, there’s something for everyone this month as part of the fantastic Festival of Theatre program.

I encourage you to take part in the many Ipswich Festival events on offer this year. It is a time to celebrate all that is wonderful about our city and revel in the proud cultural heart that continues to beat so strongly.

Time Running Out to Secure Tattoo Tickets

Limited tickets remain for Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band’s fifth annual Ipswich International Tattoo, set to take the stage at Civic Hall on 19 and 20 April.

Billed as A Celtic Journey, this year’s spectacular show features special guest Alasdair Hutton, "the voice of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo" in a vibrant, colourful production that will take you back through music and dance to the origins of our Celtic roots.

The event will also feature performances from Highland and Irish dancers, Gaelic singers and dancers, the Cambrian Youth Choir and much more. Don’t miss your chance to witness what promises to be yet another fantastic Tattoo production and a highlight of the 2008 Ipswich Festival.

Ipswich Seniors Bring Mystery to the Stage


The multi-talented members of the Ipswich Seniors Concert Group are set to bring mystery and intrigue to the stage in their latest theatrical offering.

Written and directed by Kev Hallewell, Who Dun It? - A Magatha Mysterie combines the classic murder mystery with much-loved music and song in a concert event not to be missed. Set in the roarin’ 20s, there’s gals, gangsters and gags galore. Big Al and Bugsy warn you to "be dere - or take da consequences!".

There’ll also be plenty of chances for a sing-along with a host of hits and memories including Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, Chicago, Zing Went the Strings of My Heart, Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man O’ Mine and many more.

Comedy, The King, classic rock, cabaret and forbidden dance - all this and more is on offer this month at Ipswich Civic Hall.

Australian comedy icon Kevin Bloody Wilson arrives in Ipswich for one night only on Wednesday 23 April as part of his 'DILLIGAF Café' World Tour 2008. This latest tour has Kevin in the best form of his stellar international career with a great bunch of hilarious new songs as well as an ever-growing collection of old favourites. Please note this is an 'R' Rated 18+ show. All tickets $42.

On Thursday 24 April, experience an Elvis tribute show like no other when Andy Seymour Presents The Gospel According to Elvis. Featuring 19 hit Gospel songs and an extraordinary band, this brilliant show celebrates how a young rock 'n' roll singer gave Gospel music a fresh appeal to a whole new audience. Don't miss this soul-stirring, inspirational journey. Tickets are $24 for adults and $22 for concessions.

If classic rock is more your style, join Ian Moss of Cold Chisel and Jon Stevens of Noiseworks in a special concert event on Friday 25 April. The Let's Get Together Tour also features special guests Jack Jones of Southern Sons and Tania Doko of Bachelor Girl in an evening of unforgettable rock music for young and old. All tickets $55.

The music mood changes once again on Saturday 26 April when X-Collective, the cabaret ensemble of The Queensland Orchestra, presents Pick A Box as part of a Queensland Arts Council tour. Expect a night of extremes from Bach to Shostakovich, jazz to funk, Hollywood to Bollywood and all styles in between. Tickets from $12 to $32.

Finish off a jam-packed month with forbidden dance on Wednesday 30 April. Flamenco Fire will unleash your gypsy spirit when Australia's best flamenco dancers, singers and musicians present this beautifully crafted show. From festive dances to heart-wrenching songs and fiery guitar solos, this amazing production will transport you to Espana…Ole! Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for concessions and $20 for children.

Classic Opera Kicks Off May Events


Co-Opera returns to Ipswich Civic Hall in May with the timeless classic "La Traviata".

Based on the novel La Dame Aux Camellies Camellies by Alexander Dumas, this delightful opera tells the story of a father who disapproves of his son’s choice of a woman. He breaks up the relationship only to regret his actions when he discovers the woman truly is honourable and tragically dying.

Rich in tunes that are familiar and toe-tapping, Co-Opera’s production of Verdi's famous opera is set in the 1950s against a glamorous backdrop of exotic parties with excesses of wine, love and living.
