Chairperson's Message
We have had a tremendous year, filled with a wide array of local, national and international events. It's a hard act to follow but the coming year's program is already filling fast with a host of top class shows from Ipswich, Australia and beyond. With local musical productions, children's theatre, comedy, music and dance, there is certainly going to be something for everyone in 2009. May I take this opportunity to thank, not only all the hard-working staff involved with Ipswich Civic Hall, but also you - the patrons who come along to the shows. Your support of the Festival of Theatre has ensured it gets bigger and better each year. Merry Christmas to you all and may 2009 bring you and your loved ones many blessings.

2009 Begins With Ted E’s Farewell
Strassman's 2009 Australian tour, entitled "Ted E's Farewell Tour" will mark the retirement of the much adored bear. He will retire from the pressure, the publicity, the paparazzi, the tabloids and - most of all - Chuck Wood! As hilarious as ever, the show is a star-studded tribute to Ted E Bare's greatest showbiz moments. Of course, Ted E Bare's departure leaves a huge hole to fill. Who could fill Ted E's shoes? Strassman's journey of discovery uncovers some new and extraordinary characters, desperate to join the show. Meanwhile, the existing characters battle to get more of the show. The evilly sarcastic Chuck Wood, the grumpy and cantankerous Grandpa Fred, attention-seeking A.N.G.E.L. and intergalactic Kevin enter a battle of wits - so prepare for a wild ride of biting humour and desperate behaviour! But will Ted E Bare really leave for good? Where will he go, who is his real family, and can this psychologically twisted show survive without its shy side? Could this be the end of everyone? Make sure you find out! Please note this show has an MA rating. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

[ Back to Top ] Smokie Comes to Ipswich
In fact, the Smokie sound is so distinctive that it has set the band apart from the rest, allowing them to remain at the top and continue making new music. It's original, it's timeless and it has made Smokie one of the worldwide best selling bands, with a career few could better. After more than 30 years, one might fear that Smokie is burned out – that the group would want to rest on their laurels and just play the old hits over and over again. But the group’s upcoming concert tour will prove to all their Australian fans that Smokie is in great shape! And the band is also confirming their reputation of being perhaps the hardest working band in the business with 260 days on tour last year, together with 178 flights from country to country. Now it’s Ipswich's turn to host this amazing, iconic band. As well as experiencing some of the group's newer music, you can also relive all the classic Smokie hits like Living Next Door to Alice, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Oh Carol, Lay Back in the Arms of Someone, Needles and Pins and many more… A concert no Smokie fan should miss!
