Chairperson's Message
Upcoming March events in particular prove there's something for everyone. From opera and choral music to comedy and musical tribute shows, the Festival of Theatre program strives to offer a range of events to suit a variety of entertainment tastes. The shows you will read about here are just the beginning of a jam-packed year of exciting events aimed at all ages, so keep checking the website for details of what's coming up each month.

In this issue...Don't Miss SmokieTime is running out to purchase tickets for iconic UK band Smokie's upcoming Ipswich concert. With platinum records spanning four decades, Smokie's signature sound is a combination of hook-laden songs and distinctive soft-rock harmonies. In fact, the Smokie sound is so distinctive that it has set the band apart from the rest, allowing them to remain at the top and continue making new music. It's original, it's timeless and it has made Smokie one of the worldwide best selling bands, with a career few could better. 
Now it's Ipswich's turn to host this amazing, iconic band. As well as experiencing some of the group's newer music, you can relive all the classic Smokie hits like Living Next Door to Alice, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Oh Carol, Lay Back in the Arms of Someone, Needles and Pins and many more ... a concert no Smokie fan should miss!

Coming Up Next Month…Classic Opera With a Twist
Enjoy Mozart's music, glorious and sacred in a special way, offered in its original beauty by some of the brightest, strongest, sweetest voices in Australia today... but with a difference. Co-Opera's Magic Flute is set in a 60s restaurant! It's naughty but great fun and what's best is the way the wonderful music of Mozart, preserved with such loving care and meticulous authenticity, mixes so well with the adapted dialogue and storyline. Presented in a relaxed style of cabaret presentation, you will never think of the Flute in the same way again!
Tuesday 10 March - 7.30pm Busting to Make You Laugh
 The show that has the critics raving, women cheering on their feet, and men gasping with amazement, is coming to Ipswich for two shows only. Packed with song, dance, thigh-slapping characters and knock-out comedy, Busting Out! offers practical demonstrations for your 'drooping assets' that will have you both laughing and dancing in the aisles. The 2009 tour follows a sell-out season in Brisbane which entertained over 50,000 people.

Cat Stevens was the voice of a generation. Yet, at the height of his career in the mid 1970s, discontent with the excesses of fame and fortune, he abandoned the music business. With album sales of over 40 million and sold out stadium concerts across the globe, why did Cat Stevens disappear from the music scene? In Wild World: The Cat Stevens Story, Paul Dillon and The Tillermen take you on a special journey to discover the man behind the songs the world sang along with ... Moonshadow, Morning Has Broken, (Remember the Days of the) Old School Yard, Father and Son, First Cut is the Deepest, Where Do the Children Play, Wild World and many more.

Spellbinding Music Set to Impress

Tribute Show Offers Big O Experience
Described by radio personality John Laws as "unbelievable" and "fantastic", Gerard O'Donoghue will take you on an unforgettable musical tour through the Roy Orbison era. Supported by The Premiers, one of Australia's top bands, the show begins with a selection of classic tunes including You'll Never Walk Alone, Unforgettable and Unchained Melody. Then get set for an amazing second act filled with all the Big O hits - Only the Lonely, Crying and many, many more - an event no fan should miss!
Saturday 28 March - 8.00pm Chorale Presents Celebrity Concert
Offering an afternoon of choral music and band items, this special concert will feature the magnificent full chorus of the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale conducted by Major Neville Hammond (ret). Joining the choir will be the Young Orpheus Singers and special guests, the Australian Army Band Brisbane.
