Chairperson's Message

Cr Charlie Pisasale There's some great Festival of Theatre events on offer for the younger members of the family next month.

The little ones will love Kookaplatawombaroo.  The talented team behind X-Collective have been to Ipswich several times before and it's great to see them producing some top-class children's events.  The slightly older kids - especially primary-school-aged girls - will no doubt be excited to hear that the Hannah-Miley tribute show is also on its way to the Civic Hall.

The grown-ups can enjoy a fantastic Frank Sinatra tribute or the very popular Menopause the Musical - which is almost sold out!

This is just a taste of what's on offer for the second half of the year.  Keep an eye out for the new events brochure and keep checking the website for new events.

'Mini Musical for Tiny Tots' Set to Delight

What do you get when you take bits and pieces from various Australian birds and animals and create a single creature?  A Kookaplatawombaroo of course!

This fascinating character is set to delight youngsters aged three to eight years in a special concert event next month. Featuring the acclaimed talents of Brisbane-based ensemble X-Collective, the show is described as a 'mini musical for tiny tots'.

The Kookaplatawombaroo's journey begins when he heads to the park one day, searching for his misplaced and very important 'Special Hanky'. Upon hearing some musicians performing nearby, he decides to join in. He tries to play various instruments only to find his duck-bill, tail, wings and flippers get in the way. When asked to sing instead, he loses all confidence and says he can't possibly use his big-loud-singing-voice without his Special Hanky. With the help of his new-found friends, he eventually realises he just needs to be himself.

Tuesday 7 July - 10.00am and 11.30am

Concert Pays Homage to 'Ol' Blue Eyes'

Come Fly Away with Max Miller and his 10-piece All Star Swing Big Band when they present the music of Frank Sinatra in an elegant 'Vegas style' show at Ipswich Civic Hall next month.

Widely regarded as Australia's greatest exponent of Frank Sinatra, Max Miller has enjoyed sell out crowds, rave reviews and standing ovations over many years of paying homage to Ol' Blue Eyes. With the same relaxed stage presence, style, charisma and wit as the legendary crooner, Max's  physical resemblance to Sinatra is also uncanny. He sings with the same feeling, passion and complete artistry as the Chairman of the Board himself.

Max's two-hour tribute concert offers a musical biography of Sinatra's life, including the Big Band arrangements of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Max performs all of the Sinatra classics, including For Once In My Life, My Way, New York, New York, I've Got You Under My Skin, Birth of the Blues, Fly Me to the Moon, My Kind of Town, That's Life, Strangers in the Night, Lady is a Tramp, I'll Be Seeing You and more.

Friday 17 July - 7.30pm
Adult $39, Concession $34, Child U14 $20, Group 6+ $34, VIPs $30

Menopause the Musical Returns

Very few tickets remain for the return season of Jeanie Linders' hilarious Menopause the Musical.

Inspired by 'a hot flush and a bottle of wine,' this hugely popular musical comedy is a celebration of a certain life passage that launches women into an exciting new phase of their lives. More than half a million women across Australia have seen the show - and loved it!  So much so, many of the audience members have come back time and time again to join with their sisters in this 90-minute laugh-a-thon.

Maybe the attraction is the songs that everyone grew up with - The Great Pretender, Only You, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Stand by Your Man, I Will Survive and twenty more - all sung with gusto and all with their 'new' lyrics. Or maybe it's the realisation that there is a wonderful life waiting after 'The Change'. Come and see for yourself.

Friday 24 July - 7.30pm
Saturday 25 July - 2.00pm and 7.30pm
Limited seats available at all performances - be quick!
