Chairperson's Message
If laughter really is the best medicine, then the Ipswich Civic Centre has the prescription for all your woes.
It is time to laugh your cares away with a number of fantastic shows on offer. Start working out your funny bones with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow on April 27. This show is touring right around Australia, showcasing the best and bravest of the comedy scene’s newcomers. There will be some faces you will recognise from the television while others are fresh from their comedy debuts.
Two weeks later there will be plenty of chuckles and laugh-out-loud moments when Menopause the Musical returns to the Civic Centre. Now before you groan or say ‘I’ve already seen that’, you should know it is not the same production. The musical has been refreshed much like a menopausal woman in front of an open freezer. There are new jokes, new musical numbers and new dance moves. The hilarious look at ‘the change’ is the same but the writer and producer promises it will be bigger and funnier than previous productions. Isn’t it time you were tickled pink with laughter?
And finally, did you hear about the skeleton who couldn’t go to the party? He had no body to dance with.
On that note, please enjoy the laughs on offer from the comedy professionals.

It’s back – hotter and better than ever. Menopause the Musical writer Jeanie Linders and director Patty Bender have teamed up to bring new songs and choreography to the production. Set in a department store, four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. They quickly bond and make fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realise that menopause is no longer the silent passage.
As a special bonus for Ipswich Civic Centre patrons, groups of six or more will receive a complimentary glass of bubbly in a souvenir Menopause the Musical flute.
