Building and Plumbing

Building & ConstructionCouncil's Building Team forms part of the Planning and Development Department. Anyone proposing to do building, or remodelling work, whether you are doing it yourself or employing the services of a licensed builder, should contact the Council's Building Team to ensure requirements, regulations, and fees are met. Plumbing work can only be undertaken by a licensed plumber/drainer.

Council also has a building certification office located at Shop 3, 26 Springfield Lakes Boulevard, Springfield Lakes. Please contact (07) 3437 8344 or 0417 782 667 during the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.

Application forms related to Building and Plumbing legislative and regulatory requirements are available direct from the Queensland Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation web site.

Inspections are available between the hours of 8.30 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. Monday to Friday and can be arranged by contacting the Officers at South Street, Ipswich or the Springfield Lakes Office.

An after hours answering service is available for booking inspections. The telephone number is (07) 3810 6788. The fee payable in respect of the erection of any new building, for any addition or alteration to any building or any plumbing works is detailed in Council's Register of Fees and Charges.

The fee structure covers the examination and consideration of plans and specifications of the proposal, examination and the inspection (as deemed necessary) of the work during progress.

 

Stay local and choose Council's Building Services

When thinking about building, get the best available advice. Whether you are doing it yourself or employing a licensed builder, contact the Ipswich City Council's Building Team for that advice. You have a choice between using Ipswich City Council's Building Team or Private Certifiers to approve and inspect new building work.

If you are using a builder for any proposed building works, insist they obtain the necessary building approvals through Ipswich City Council's Building Team.

When you choose Ipswich City Council to process your building approvals:

  1. The funds stay in the local community for the betterment of the people of the City of Ipswich;
  2. Our service is independent of the builder; and
