Chemical Clean Out Day

Ipswich City Council will hold a Chemical Clean Out Day at Ipswich Waste Services' Briggs Road Depot on Saturday 17 May 2008 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  This collection day will provide residents with the chance to dispose of their household chemicals in a safe environment.

This event is free to Ipswich residents and a driver's licence will be required as proof of residency.

Chemicals will be the ONLY materials that will be accepted at Chemical Clean Out Day. Chemicals that will be accepted include:

  • Paint and paint related chemicals
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Poisons
  • Solvents and household cleaners
  • Acids and alkalis
  • Pool chemicals
  • Hobby chemicals.

Other wastes can be disposed of safely at your local Recycling and Refuse Centre. They are located at Riverview and Rosewood.

Only household quantities up to 20 litres/20kg maximum will be accepted.

Please store and transport your chemicals carefully:

  • never mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions.
  • try to keep chemicals in their original containers.
  • ensure containers are clearly labelled and well sealed, if you do not know what is in the container, label it 'unknown chemical'.
  • liquid can leak during transport. Wrap containers holding liquids securely in newspaper and place them in sturdy plastic bags, then pack in plastic buckets or trays.
  • Keep household chemicals away from passengers e.g. in the boot.

Council staff and contractors will be there to assist you with directions.
