LOCAL Now is an exhibition by eight local artists that will hit the walls of the Ipswich Art Gallery this September.
Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson Councillor Charlie Pisasale said this show would help raise the profile of the Ipswich region's local artists and their innovative work.
"Over the past decade, more than 20 local artists have been featured in solo or group exhibitions at the Ipswich Art Gallery," Cr Pisasale said.
"Following the success of these shows along with the popular 'Homegrown' exhibitions the Ipswich Art Gallery is currently putting together 'Local Now' to celebrate the diversity of art practice happening in the broader region encompassing Ipswich, Somerset and the Scenic Rim.
"This show will feature provocative and challenging works by artists who demonstrated a progressive approach to their practise.
"Featured artists are Gary Abkin, Merton Chambers, Mieke Den Otter, Sharon Harper-Greentree, Alinta Krauth, Kate Roberts, Christopher Trotter and LeAnne Vincent.
"This diversity of regional arts practice is expressed not only in the choice of media used by these prominent artists that ranges from painting and sculpture through to multimedia installation work but also in their creative approaches to art-making.
"Local Now also aims to raise awareness of the diversity, depth and innovation of art practice in the region which can sometimes be overlooked by a city-centric arts industry.
"The exhibition will be launched with a celebratory event with the arts communities of Ipswich, Somerset and the Scenic Rim."
