UPDATE: In order to maintain appropriate social distancing protocols members of the public are not able to physically attend Council meetings, however the virtual Council meetings will be available for real-time viewing or listening on Council’s streaming page.

The meeting dates and times for Council and committee meetings remains the same as notified in the meetings dates and times.

On Friday 08 May the federal and state government announced a three step plan to relax COVID-19 restrictions by July 2020.

The first stage of resumptions is set to commence at 11:59pm Friday 15 May 2020.

This stage includes gatherings of up to 10 people adhering to social distancing restrictions in places such as pools, lagoons, parks and libraries. Ipswich City Council is committed to serving the community and providing access to its many facilities as soon and as safely as possible. Council will work within the federal and state government guidelines to reopen our facilities.

Announcements and updates will be provided by Council here on this website and other available communication channels to keep the community informed.

Support for Residents

Will essential services remain operational?

Yes. Council has developed a COVID-19 Response Plan to ensure essential services are maintained.

Should the community still submit customer requests for things like potholes, requesting new bins, etc?

Yes. Council will communicate with customers in relation to their requests.

Can I still come in person to a council Customer Service Centre?

Yes. At this stage, our Customer Service Centres are still accessible to the public, although we do ask that if customers feel unwell, they call first. The health and safety of our employees and the community is paramount and we encourage our customers to consider the advice of Queensland Health before attending in person.

How can I contact council during this period?

You can still contact council though the normal channels, including the customer call centre (07) 3810 6666 or email or in person at the Customer Service Centre.

Council is currently working on how it can assist businesses and the community to recover from the economic impacts of the virus. The following information includes the state and federal government support services is available for businesses.

Support for Visitors

Council’s Visitor Information Centre will be temporarily closed from close of business, Monday 23 March.

Council’s destination portal Discover Ipswich will keep visitors up-to-date with information relating to events, temporary closures and what visitors to the region can expect during this period.

We encourage visitors to Ipswich to consider the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and their families during this pandemic and to follow the advice provided by Queensland Health.

Ipswich City Council has cancelled some council produced events scheduled for March, April and May. The cancellation is part of council’s response to COVID-19 and is in line with Federal Government’s directives.

Ipswich City Council has also moved to decline event permit applications over 500 people to 31 May 2020. Permit fees will be refunded to impacted events. All event bookings for over 500 people in council facilities to 31 May 2020 will also be cancelled with deposits to be refunded and no cancellation fees charged.


How long will this pandemic affect Ipswich?

Council is following advice from lead agencies Queensland Health and the Australian Government. At this stage, council has decided to cancel major events until the end of May, however this is not an indication of when the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to be no longer an issue. We encourage the community to keep up-to-date with information from Queensland Health.
