Ipswich City Council Administrators Update - Vision 2020 December 2018

3 Resilient, positive, passionate, courageous, strong, determined… these are just some of the words I’d use to describe Ipswich City Council staff. I have been incredibly impressed by the dedication of your council’s workers during the past three months. Change isn’t always easy, and not everyone finds it comfortable, however, council staff have continued to move forward with a steely resolve and a commitment to positively contribute to our new vision for the council and the city. Yes, they’ve continued to empty your bins, care for your parks and gardens, and build or repair your roads, but while fulfilling these day-to-day tasks, many of them have stepped up to have a say in the city’s future. I’ve been impressed by their positivity, and by the high calibre of their ideas and insights. They’re certainly a resilient bunch. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all 1,200 of our people for their unwavering support and belief that we can get your council back to where you want it to be. It hasn’t been easy, and admittedly, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges and uncomfortable moments over the past three months, but I know that together we will achieve great things between now and March 2020. Speaking of our people, I hope to soon be able to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will help us achieve our goals and keep our staff focused, inspired and engaged. Watch this space. If you happen to spot a council worker on your travels, perhaps fixing your road, mowing your footpath or processing your rates payment, be sure to give them a smile and say thanks. After all, it’s their job to improve the quality of life for our community… your community. And they do it with immense pride in their city. Have a wonderful and safe Christmas and festive season. Regards, Greg Chemello A WORD FROM THE INTERIM ADMINISTRATOR “BE CONFIDENT IN DOING RIGHT” Did you know that council’s motto, “C onfide Recte Agens ”, translates to “Be confident in doing right”? It’s been in place for 158 years, and it’s something council intends to once again deliver to the community and council staff during this period of interim administration and beyond.
