Ipswich 2032 Legacy Roadmap
Ipswich City Council is immensely proud to have been part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games from its inception, when in 2015, the Council of Mayors South East Queensland (CoMSEQ) began investigating a regional Olympic and Paralympic proposal. This would be the catalyst to expedite infrastructure delivery to support South East Queensland’s (SEQ) growing region, to boost the economy and significantly raise the region’s profile on the international stage. They were committed to understanding how the Games could leave a positive legacy for the region by accelerating the funding and delivery of major infrastructure for the future of SEQ.
Years of work by the region’s councils, along with its partners – The Federal Government, Queensland Government, Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia, saw the dream fulfilled. Brisbane and South East Queensland were selected as the hosts of the Games of the XXXXV Olympiad.
Our legacy plan was not an exercise done in solitude. Council kept community at its core through the following engagements:
Legacy for Ipswich means leveraging the Games to create positive change, over the years leading into the opening ceremony, the 10 years after the closing ceremony, and beyond. It will enhance the quality of life for our community to create a city of opportunity for all.
