Anewbridge to improveflood
immunity to Ipswich’s eastern suburbs
is underway, withmajorworks on a
new SixMileCreek BridgeonRedbank
Plains Road.
Redbank Plains Road is a vital
carriageway connecting Ipswich’s
eastern suburbs to the rest of the city.
Council has allocated $6.5million for
thedesign and constructionof the
project andworkbeganon the site in
late February.
Two spansmeasuring 25metres
eachwill traverse the SixMileCreek
Crossing, providingbetter access even
in times of heavy rain. The structure
will bebuilt toQ20 standards to
helpminimise road closures owing to
flooding.
Theprojectwill includeearthworks
and landscaping and tie into the
CollingwoodDriveprojectwhichwas
recently completed.
Therewill alsobe 500metres of new
road, bridge, new street lighting,
the relocationof a number of
essential services and access into the
neighbouring sports fields.
Council has designed a temporary road
tominimisedisruptions during the
bridge constructionperiod.
Upon completionof the SixMileCreek
Bridge, residents travelling regularly
onRedbank Plains Roadwill be less
inconveniencedby significant rain
events andflooding.
