A joint initiativebetween IpswichCity
Council and theQueenslandPolice
Servicehas netted tremendous results
in reducing anti-social behaviour in the
IpswichMall precinct.
The IpswichCentral Public Safety
Strategywas put inplace inDecember
2014 following a spateof offences and
antisocial behaviour in theMall.
An important retail andbusiness hub,
the IpswichMall is an areawhere the
community should feel comfortable
and able to go about their everyday
routine.
IpswichPolicenowuse iPads to view
live footage from IpswichCityCouncil’s
SafeCity camera network andhave run
joint patrolswith securityofficers to
enforce local laws anddeter antisocial
behaviour.
ThePublic Safety Strategyhas sent
a clearmessage topotential trouble
makers and since it began, policehave
taken a zero tolerance approach to
offenders in the area.
During theDecember-January school
holidayperiod, 66hours of joint
patrolswere conducted, aswell as 128
hours of securitypatrols.
The securityofficer patrolswere
deployed to actively target antisocial
behaviour and local lawbreaches.
Joint patrols resulted in 165persons
being spoken to regardingbehaviour
andoffences includingbreaches of
local laws, and 20peoplewere issued
infringement notices for smoking
offences.
Cr Antoniolli thanked theQueensland
Police Service and local officers for the
commitment to thenewPublic Safety
Strategy and said thehigh visibility
patrols had achieved good results.
The IpswichCentral Public Safety
Strategywill continue tooperate as
part of a joint commitment to keep
the IpswichCBD andMall a safeplace
formembers of the community to visit
andwork.

LEDlights forQueensPark
Queens Parkhas received a special
makeover, with council upgrading the
park’s lightingwith 53new LED lights.
Theupgrades arepart of theClean
Technology InnovationProgram and
installationwas completed in late
January. Thenew additionwill improve
lighting in thepark and the location
andbrightnessof the LED lights can
be controlled remotely ifmoreor less
lighting is required in aparticular area
at any time.

on theBremer Riverwill beonApril 16
to kickoff the festival fun, with the
best viewing area fromRiverlink
ShoppingCentre. Someother key

18 inQueens Park and the Jazz,Wine
andBluesonApril 25 inQueens Park.
