CollingwoodPark andRedbank Plains
will drivemuchof the city’s population
growth, withnew residential
developments and a shopping centre
expansion given the green light by
IpswichCityCouncil.
Ipswich’s population is projected to
grow tomore than 460,000 in less
than 20 years and the completion
of theCollingwoodDriveextension
has opened the area up for further
development.
The $6.5millionproject to link
CollingwoodDrivewithRedbank Plains
Roadwas not only vitally important
to reduce travel times, but created a
connectionbetween the twomajor
hubs of CollingwoodPark andRedbank
Plains.
Woodlinks Village Estate is just oneof
thenew residential communities tobe
constructedoffCollingwoodDrive in
CollingwoodPark.
Council has approved 333 new
residential lots tobedevelopedover
14 stages and stage 1will include a
new recreationpark for the region. A
cycleway, footpaths and local roadswill
alsobe constructed in thenewestate.
Just around the corner ofMullins
Street, Redbank Plains another
residential estatewith a further 143
residential lots has alsobeen approved
by IpswichCityCouncil.
Theestate is locatednear the
CollingwoodDriveextension and the
nearbyRedbank Plains Retail Centre
whichhas alsobeen approved for a
major expansion thatwill quadruple
the retail space.
Once completed, theRedbank Plains
Retail Centrewill increase from 5899m2
to 27,926m2 and consist of twonew
supermarkets, adiscount department
store, a new fast foodoutletwithdrive
through facilities, aswell as a number
of new specialty shops.
This exciting redevelopmentwillmake
the shopping centre two levels andbe
done in two stages.
Council will alsobeupgradingRedbank
Plains Road to a four-lanedivided
carriageway to cater for the increased
trafficflow coming in andout of the
shopping centre.
Newhomes, parks, roadupgrades, and
a shopping centre redevelopment is
just a coupleof indicators of our city’s
population growth and it’s exciting
to see the regionbecome a hiveof
activity.
