What training do I need?
Food Safety Training
All licensable food businesses must have a nominated food safety supervisor and ensure food handlers have sufficient training in food safety and hygiene.
Food Safety Supervisor
What is a Food Safety Supervisor:
A food safety supervisor is a person who has advanced food safety skills and knowledge and must have the authority to supervise and give directions about matters relating to food safety to people who handle food in a food business.
Food Safety Supervisor Training Requirements:
Under Food Standards Code 3.2.2A, food safety supervisors for category 1 and category 2 food businesses must complete their certification every 5 years. This training must be obtained from a Registered Training Organisation.
Training requirements depend on the food sector that the food safety supervisor works in.

How Do I Notify Council:
You can nominate a food safety supervisor as part of your Fixed or Mobile Food Business Licence(PDF, 234.5KB) or Temporary Food Business Licence(PDF, 675KB) Application forms.
If there are any changes to food safety supervisor details, you can notify Council by contacting Council at council@ipswich.qld.gov.au
Food handler training
All food businesses are responsible for providing safe food and ensuring that food handlers are properly trained in food safety and hygiene.
Food safety training helps improve safe food handling practices and is a legal requirement under Standard 3.2.2A of the Food Standards Code.
Food handlers must either:
- complete a food safety training course, or
- have appropriate food safety and hygiene skills and knowledge relevant to their role.
