Do I need a Food Safety Program?

Certain businesses may require food safety program. These can include high risk food businesses such as childcare, aged care and large caterers.

A food safety program may be required if:

  • Off site catering is undertaken
  • The primary activity is on-site catering at the premises stated in the licence
  • The primary activity is on-site catering at part of the premises stated in the licence.
  • The food business is carried on as part of the operations of a private hospital
  • Potentially hazardous food is processed or served to six or more vulnerable persons.

If your business falls into a mandatory category, the program must be written, audited and approved. You can apply for a food safety program accreditation as part of the Fixed or Mobile Food Business Licence(PDF, 234.5KB) application.
