Ipswich City Council offers more ways for residents to get rid of large household items. Residents can choose between an on-demand collection service or a waste voucher for use at Resource Recovery Centres, making it easier to dispose of large items such as white goods, mattresses and furniture. Flexible options help create a fairer system and support responsible disposal with greater convenience.

Ipswich residents can choose one free service per financial year to help dispose of large household items. Residents can select either a waste voucher or large item bag (terms and conditions apply):
Waste Vouchers allow residents one free entry to Riverview or Rosewood Resource Recovery Centres for up to 500kg of domestic household waste.
This heavy duty, 2 cubic metre bag, big enough to fit couches, mattresses, washing machines, bikes and other large items.

Ipswich City Council residents may be eligible for a waste voucher or large item bag if they meet the following criteria:
Live at a residential property within the Ipswich local government area.
Intend to use the service for domestic household waste only (not business or commercial waste).
The household has not already used its allocation for the financial year (one large item bag or one waste voucher per financial year).
Important things to know:
Eligibility is determined based on the property address and site accessibility.
Some eligible residents may only be offered a waste voucher where a bag service is not available.
There are no upfront fees for this service. Credit/debit card details (large item bag only) and a valid email address are required as part of the application process. Charges will only be applied in the event of a breach of the terms and conditions of use.
For disposal of up to 500kg of accepted domestic household waste at an Ipswich Resource Recovery Centre.
You can dispose of a range of domestic waste items, including:
soft flooring and mattresses
soft furnishings and large furniture
carpets and rugs
timber and wood products
green waste (lawn clippings, palm fronds, pruning)
clean, dry, intact glass
all materials must meet Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) acceptance guidelines.
standard fees and charges apply for loads over 500kg.
standard fees and charges apply for normal charged items, such as tyres.

Collection of large items weighing up to 165kg in total, which will accommodate a standard 400 litre fridge, 7kg washing machine, single mattress, standard push bike and more.
You can use this for the following household items
electronic items
household appliances including fridges, freezers, washers, dryers and stoves
bath and laundry tubs
timber, tiles and bricks
bikes and sporting equipment
wood products
concrete, bricks and tiles.
Items outside standard Resource Recovery Centre acceptance guidelines such as:
Hazardous materials (e.g. chemicals, asbestos)
Explosives
Medical or biohazard waste
Commercial or business waste (the service is for household waste only)
construction and demolition material (excluding concrete, bricks and tiles)
general household waste and recycling (including food scraps)
batteries or mobile phones
explosives
car parts including tyres
hazardous materials (such as gas bottles, asbestos, chemicals and fibro sheets)
medical or biohazard waste
liquids, oils, solvents and paints
commercial builders waste and business waste, including window panes
broken glass.

Arrange a free charity collection for usable items
Offer items for free through social media platforms or similar
If you only have a few items, consider breaking them down and placing them in your red bin over time
Check with your neighbours - if they also only have a few items, you may be able to combine loads and share a trip to the Resource Recovery Centre
