Ipswich residents embrace Active and Healthy lifestyle in the thousand

Ipswich continues to embrace the Active and Healthy lifestyle, with a council program leading the way.
Ipswich City Council’s Active and Healthy program offers free and low-cost physical activity, outdoor recreation, wellbeing and healthy eating sessions for people of all ages and abilities.
It is delivered as part of council’s Ipswich Community Development Strategy and the Active Ipswich Strategy 2031.
Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said the program is getting increasingly popular with time.
“More than 31,400 attendances were recorded in the Active and Healthy program during the 2024-2025 financial year, a 27 per cent increase compared to the previous year,” Cr Madsen said.
“During this time, residents took part in 1,953 classes and workshops.
“The program is expanding as our city grows, ensuring important services continue to meet community demand.
“Quantity is not the only measure of success – accessibility and convenience are also vital aspects of the Active and Healthy program, with 7.5 per cent of participants living with a disability.
“Council has also made it easier for residents to participate in the program through the Active and Healthy Ipswich app and booking system which were launched in January 2024.
“As of 30 June, more than 10,000 members have signed up to the program since the booking system was made available.
“Earlier this year, a new Active and Healthy Hub launched at the Goodna Community Centre.
“It has been a huge success with more than 1500 people attending one of the 151 classes offered there since it opened in March.
“While these are great results, council is always keen on improving its services to the community.
“Every December, council seeks community feedback to better understand what activities people like and dislike so we can better cater to the needs of our growing community.”
