I want to operate a temporary food stall

To sell food at a market, festival, or event, you may need a Temporary Food Business Licence.

Licences are Council‑specific and only allow trading within the Ipswich City Council local government area.

There are two separate types of temporary food business licences available:

  • One Off Events (up to 12 day duration)
  • Annual Licence
  • Applications made within 5 days of the event occurring may incur additional fees

How do I apply?

  • Complete the Application for Temporary Food Business Licence(PDF, 675KB)
  • Provide a plan indicating the layout of the stall, including the location of equipment, hand washing facilities, and any other relevant fixtures or areas.
  • Nominate a Food Safety Supervisor and attach a copy of the certificate of attainment.
  • Submit the completed application form, food safety supervisor training certificates and payment to Council by:

What happens next

Council has 30 business days to process applications, please ensure that sufficient time is allowed to complete this process prior to the festival or event.

Once your application has been processed it will generally be tasked to the Environmental Health Team for review and assessment.

In some cases, additional information may be required to properly assess your application. If this occurs, Council will work with you to obtain the necessary information and assist in progressing your application toward approval.

Other licences

Your food business may also require other licences depending upon your activities. For example, if you wish to trade in the Nicholas Street Precinct, a permit will be required.
