The design and construction of a new $41 million western grandstand at North Ipswich Reserve is set to officially commence after an extensive selection process saw family-owned construction company, Buildcorp, awarded as the successful tenderer.
Council received 11 submissions for the project, which will deliver a new two-storey western grandstand with player and spectator facilities and associated public plaza works at the North Ipswich Reserve.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said council had now signed off on the successful tenderer for the $41 million project following a rigorous selection process, ensuring the pre-construction phase of the project could commence this month.
“This is the first stage towards realising our future vision of a national-standard sport and entertainment precinct, featuring a modern 12,000-seat rectangular stadium in Queensland’s sporting heartland,” said Mayor Harding.
“Following a rigorous, two‑stage open market tender process, council received 11 submissions, shortlisted the top two, and conducted detailed interactive evaluations.
“Buildcorp, a family-owned commercial construction company, will design and construct the new North Ipswich Reserve Western Grandstand.
“Awarding both design and construction to the same company, Buildcorp, will deliver greater efficiency in delivering this project for the Ipswich community.
“The 35-year-old company had delivered $9 billion in projects across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, including buildings at the University of Queensland, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane CBD, and the National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore Stadium, Herston.
“As we approach Brisbane 2032, this project is perfectly timed to ensure Ipswich can fulfil its role as a co-host city for the Games and attract training and cultural opportunities in the lead up to the global event.”
The $41 million North Ipswich Reserve Western Grandstand project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government in association with Ipswich City Council.
State Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tim Mander was pleased the project was progressing.
“The Crisafulli Government’s $10 million investment will bring the North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct proposal to life and ensure that the community can stay active and healthy,” Minister Mander said.
“In the lead up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’re delivering world-class venues across Queensland to boost participation, ensuring we remain the home of Australian sport.
“Ipswich is a fast-growing city, and this precinct will ensure that all levels of sport and community events can have access to the facilities they need.”
The pre-construction phase will begin this month, with design workshops and a concept design delivered early next year. Operational works will begin in August 2026.
The construction phase is scheduled to begin in September-October 2026, with demolition of existing facilities and the new grandstand. Weather permitting, completion is set for September 2027 and the Reserve reopened for the start of the 2028 winter sports season.
