Game on in Division 1 after green light on dugout projects
Published on 03 December 2025
It will be game on for teams using the Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve with dugouts set to be built for two fields through Ipswich City Council’s Provisional Projects sub-program.
Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine said the projects received the go-ahead at council’s Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 27 November.
“Three sets of dugouts, at a total cost of $225,000, will be built on the Peter Phelan Memorial Oval, while the Kevin Bull Oval will receive two sets, both complete with concrete slabs,” Cr Augustine said.
“These shelters will provide shade and protection from weather and a designated space for players and staff during games and training.
“The project also strengthens Redbank Plains Recreational Reserve as a hub for community activity.
“As Ipswich grows at an unprecedented rate, council looks to keep up with demand for infrastructure, whether that’s on the roads or on the sporting fields.”
Division 1 Councillor Jacob Madsen said the projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program.
“These projects respond directly to the community requests and demonstrates council’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports healthy and active lifestyles,” Cr Madsen said.
“The teams using the fields will greatly benefit from these new shelters.
“No matter what sport you’re playing, you need an area for reserves, coaches, managers and other staff – and these shelters will provide adequate comfortable spaces for exactly that.
“They are long-awaited and requested projects from the community, and council is proud to deliver them.”
The projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program.
