Intersection upgrade drives safer connections for Ipswich motorists

A major upgrade to a key intersection in the fast-growing Ripley Valley corridor is complete, delivering a safer and smoother connection for Ipswich motorists.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the $3.6 million upgrade to the intersection of Ripley Road and Reif Street at Flinders View improved one of the city’s most critical transport routes.

“Ripley Valley is growing at an incredible pace, and our community deserves roads that keep people moving safely and reliably. This upgrade is about supporting families, local businesses and commuters who use this corridor every single day,” Mayor Harding said.

“This intersection is a key connection between Ripley Valley and the Ipswich CBD, and it also supports neighbourhoods and commercial areas along Reif Street. These improvements make day‑to‑day travel easier for locals while preparing the network for the growth we know is coming.

“Upgrading this four‑way signalised intersection, including the dedicated left‑turn and merge lane at the Cunningham Highway interchange, is part of council’s long‑term transport planning through the iGO Ipswich Transport Strategy.

“These works complement the major upgrades already underway along Ripley Road and Fischer Road, which will transform Ripley Road from a rural two‑lane road into a modern four‑lane urban arterial.”

Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine said the upgrade would provide immediate benefits for motorists and active transport users.

“Residents and commuters travelling through this area will notice safer and more efficient journeys, particularly during busy peak periods,” Cr Augustine said.

“The upgrade improves the performance of the intersection today while helping prepare the network for the continued growth we are seeing across the Ripley Valley.”

Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the completed upgrade would improve safety and traffic flow at a key intersection servicing the growing Ripley Valley.

“Upgrading the Ripley Road and Reif Street intersection means a safer journey and more reliable access for the growing number of people travelling through Flinders View and the Ripley Valley,” Minister Leahy said.

The project also supports broader active transport objectives, improving connectivity along a corridor that forms part of a principal cycling route for South East Queensland.

While construction of the upgraded intersection is complete, some fine tuning of the sequencing of traffic signals to assist traffic flow will continue to take place over the coming weeks.

This project was jointly funded by Ipswich City Council and the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.
