Healthy Active Ipswich

Ipswich City Council has recently been awarded funding from the Federal Government's National Partnership Agreement on Preventative Health "The Healthy Communities Initiative". Through this funding Council will have a Healthy Communities Coordinator who will deliver the Healthy Active Ipswich Project by mid 2013.  The aim of the project is to:

"To increase participation in physical activity and improve healthy eating amongst people predominantly not in the paid workforce in Ipswich"

The following will be aimed at specific target groups in the community:

  • Council will work with Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food to provide free or heavily subsidised community cooking classes that will cover back to basic cooking skills, budgeting and nutrition.
  • The project will partner with The Ipswich Hospital Foundation to expand their free physical activity sessions including train the trainer sessions to train people in taking the activities out into the wider community.
  • The funding will also provide free training for eligible community members to gain accreditation to deliver the Heart Foundation's Heartmoves program and the Austcycle 'cycle skills' program.

Please note: This project is only in the planning stage and once implementation begins further details will be published here and advertised throughout the community to specific groups.
