Flood Mapping

Services available

Council provides flood information via the services below. The information presented varies and is dependent on the intent of the service themselves.

  • Historical Flood Maps – This service provides public mapping information on notable past historical floods. The information is approximate and can be generated from a combination of actual and modelled data (refer to the terms and conditions for full details prior to accessing the service).
  • Ipswich City Plan 2025 – This service provides a range of development related mapping information, more specific for development use. Mapped flood information in the City Plan is concentrated under the layer ‘OV12 Flood Risk and Overland Flow’ which presents the information as five (5) levels of development related flood risk categories.

Additional background

Historical flood mapping

The general information provided comprises of both historical flood extent and historical flood level.

Historical Flood Extent: this is the approximate extent of the flood. It does not indicate whether any buildings within the extent were flooded. It can contain gaps in data in some instances.

Historical Flood Level: this is the approximate maximum flood level within the property. It may not be representative in some properties – in particular properties which are large or in undulating terrain.

In addition to historical flood mapping, Ipswich’s City Plan is the primary land use planning tool used for managing development of the city’s floodplains. The Planning Scheme is continuously updated to meet changing policy, new flood information, technology and best practice.

Ipswich City Plan 2025

Council’s interactive City Plan includes a comprehensive flood risk overlay which can be used as a general guide to review your flood risk.
