Council closures over Christmas and New Year

Published on 11 December 2025

Ipswich City Council’s essential services such as its emergency call centre and residential bin collections will continue to operate during the Christmas and New Year period, with other services going on a short break.

Chief Executive Officer Sonia Cooper thanked the Ipswich community for their understanding and support over the Christmas and New Year period while most council officers take a short break.

“This break will allow many of our council team members to spend time with their loved ones, and give them an opportunity to rest so they can be ready to serve the Ipswich community in 2026,” Ms Cooper said.

“For emergencies, council’s emergency call centre will continue to operate 24 hours a day via the customer service number, (07) 3810 6666.

“On behalf of Ipswich City Council, we wish every Ipswich resident a safe holiday season and a happy New Year.”
